Rajasthan and AP in last eight

Hosts Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh on Monday took the last two quarter-final slots in the National Junior football championships in Jaipur.

Propelled by two goals within a space of two minutes by Irshad Khan and Sanjeev Kumar, Rajasthan drew 2-2 against Madhya Pradesh and pipped their rivals on goal average to reach the last eight from Cluster 6.

Rajasthan and MP were tied on 7 points each but the former made it to the quarterfinals on the basis of better goal average.

In a Cluster 3 match, Andhra Pradesh beat Tamilnadu 2-1 to make it to the quarter-finals.

In other matches of the day, Uttar Pradesh beat Maharashtra 2-0 while Himachal Pradesh got a walkover against Andaman and Nicobar.

The quarter-finals will be played on league basis and the matches in Pool A, which has Bihar, Bengal, Punjab, and Andhra Pradesh, will be played at Jodhpur while the matches in Pool B comprising Manipur, Kerala, Goa and Rajasthan will be in Jaipur.
