Aizwal side wins Subroto jr football title

Strikers Danny Lalduhawma and Lal Ramzauva were the heroes as Government boys school, Aizwal, Mizoram, beat Army boys ASC College, Bangalore, 2-0 to lift the Subroto Cup junior football title at the Ambedkar stadium in Delhi on Wednesday.

Putting on display a brilliant touch football, the Aizwal side struck twice at the beginning of each session through Danny, who gave finishing touches to two through balls by Lal.

Danny also won a brand new LML Adreno FX bike after emerging as the leading scorer of the 25-day tournament.

Before the Army boys could settle down they were a goal in arrears as Danny latched on to a defence splitting pass and bulged the net in the third minute.

Though the Army boys tried to make of match of it by altering the tempo and slowly building moves through the flanks, a goal remained elusive as they went for the break 0-1 down.

The second session of the 70-minute tussle again saw the Aizwal forwards on the rampage and sporadic attempts by the Banglore side.

Just as in the first half, Lal snatched a ball, set rolling by the Army boys, and found an unmarked Danny. The dimunitive striker slipped his marker, drew 'keeper Sabeesh out and placed the ball with perfection to put the Aizwal side 2-0 ahead in the 36th minute.

From then on it was a futile battle between Army's Manish Maithani, who was voted the Best player, and the Aizwal defence.
