Indian paddlers shine

Pallavi Kundu and the duo of Subhadip Das/Niloy Basak won a gold medal each in the cadet and sub-junior section of the Taiyuan (China) international junior Open table tennis championship.

Apart from two golds, Indians also bagged two silver and two bronze medals.

Pallavi Kundu beat Zhang Zhihan (China) 2-1 to claim the cadet girls' gold.

In the sub-junior boys doubles final, Subhadip Das and Niloy Basak overpowered Levente Szarka/Balint Farago (Hungary) 2-0.

In the final of the junior boys' doubles Sourav Chakrabarty and Arunav Ganguly went down to the Chinese pair of Yang Zi/Luo Bin 1-2 and had to rest content with a silver.

The Indian sub-junior girls' team also lost to the hosts 0-3 in the final.

The two bronze for India came in sub-junior girls' team and junior boys' team events.

Pallavi Kundu won her two matches and Neha Aggarwal won one to defeat Hungary 3-1.

Sourav Chakraborty (2) and Subhadip Das (1) helped the junior boys' team to down Korea 'B' 3-1 to claim the second bronze.

India is expected win more medals as the sub-junior boys' team has reached the final and other individual and doubles events.

A 21-member team is representing India in the tournament in which Korea, Hungary, Hong Kong, England, Canada, Thailand, New Zealand Columbia, Egypt, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan are also participating.
