India in Group A for Afro-Asian Games

Hosts India have been drawn alongwith Japan, Egypt and Ghana in Group A for the inaugural Afro-Asian Games hockey competition.

African champions South Africa head Group B, which also has Malaysia, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh, according to the draw made by the Asian Hockey Federation in Kuala Lumpur.

Asian champions South Korea and Pakistan will not participate in the November 3-11 Games as they will be playing the Champions Trophy in Lahore, scheduled on the same dates.

AHF secretary general P Alagendra, who announced the draw, also said Umpiring Committee member N Sreedharan of Malaysia had been appointed as the umpires' manager for the hockey competition

The Groups:
Men

Group A: India, Japan, Egypt, Ghana.
Group B: Malaysia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh.

Women
Group A: China, India, Zimbabwe, Kenya.
Group B: South Korea, Japan, South Africa, Namibia.
