Prabodh Tirkey to lead jr. hockey team

Prabodh Tirkey was on Thursday named captain of the 18-member junior Indian hockey team for the six-nation Challenge Open tournament, to be held at Poznan, Poland, from August 13 to 19.

The team, which leaves for Poland on Friday, will be accompanied by five officials.

The team:
Suraj Kanata, Shanmuga Sundram, K P Roy, Bikramjit Singh, Kanwalpreet Singh, Vikram Pillay, Viren Rasquinha, Sandeep Kumar, Mandeep Singh, Rajni Kant, Prabodh Tirkey (captain), Rajpal Singh, Tushar Khandekar, Raju, Sandeep Michael, Ajit Pal Singh, Inderjeet Singh and Amarjeet Pratap.

Chief coach: Rajinder Singh; Coach: N S Sodhi; Manager: A D Sharma.

Physical trainer: Sampath Kumar. Umpire: V B Singh.

The other teams taking part in the tournament are Germany, England, Malaysia, Russia and hosts Poland.
