Soumyadeep Roy, Mouma Das champs

Second seed Soumyadeep Roy of Petroleum Sports Control Board humbled top seed colleague Chetan Baboor to clinch the men's singles title while Mouma Das, also of PSCB, claimed the women's singles crown in the 31st All India Inter-Institutional table tennis championship in Calcutta on Tuesday.

The experienced Baboor began with flourish, wrapping up the first game easily but failed to maintain the momentum as his opponent staged a splendid comeback to carve out a 2-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-6, 11-6 victory in what turned out to be one-sided summit showdown.

The diminutive Mouma Das also conceded the first game, but bounced back brilliantly to demolish top seed N R Indu of PSCB with a 9-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-9, 11-7 verdict in the women's singles final which lasted about 40 minutes.

Ranabir Das and Sourav Chakraborty of Railways Sports Control Board combined well to prevail over Deepak Thukral and Vineet Chopra of Bank Sports Board 11-8, 16-14, 12-10 to claim the men's doubles title.

In the women's doubles final, Poulumi Ghatak and Mouma Das of PSCB overcame some anxious moments before suppressing Mamta Prabhu and Sushmita Roy of RSCB with a 11-4, 9-11, 11-7, 11-6 to take the crown.
