Pakistan team fined, Inzamam reprimanded

The victorious Pakistan team was fined on Wednesday for a slow over rate and man-of-the-match Inzamam-ul-Haq was severely reprimanded after alleging he was abused on the field.

"All Pakistan players have been fined 25 per cent of their match fees for bowling five overs short in the Karachi Test," International Cricket Council (ICC) match referee Brian Hastings of New Zealand said.

However the home team escaped a 100 per cent fine for a slow over rate in the second innings as Sri Lanka were bowled out in 46 overs.

Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by 222 runs in the third Test on day four but lost the series 1-2.

The ICC code of conduct requires every Test team to bowl 15 overs an hour and 90 in the full day's play. Inzamam-ul Haq, who scored a brilliant 138 to help Pakistan post a commanding total, was given a severe reprimand for his comments about a Sri Lankan player.

"He is been reprimanded in the hearing and given a suspended 25 per cent match fee fine applicable for six months from March 15 to September 15," Hastings said.

The fine will be collected if Haq commits the same violation during this period.

Haq reportedly said in an interview he was abused by Sri Lankan wicketkeeper Romesh Kaluwitharana during the first innings.

Players are bound by the ICC code of conduct and cannot make allegations against the opposition.
