Akram in team for Sharjah series

Former Pakistani captain Wasim Akram has been included in Pakistan's 15-member squad for the Sharjah one-day tournament but his final inclusion will depend on his fitness levels.

"We have given him 48 hours to justify his full fitness," Pakistan Cricket Board secretary Wasim Bari said on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old Akram missed the second and third Test against Sri Lanka due to a groin injury and was not in the preliminary squad of 18 players announced on Monday.

Middle order batsman Ijaz Ahmed failed to get a place for the Sharjah tournament after failing in two innings in the Karachi Test, while former Pakistan captain Saeed Anwar did not get a place due to a sprained neck.

Also dropped from the preliminary squad are pacers Shahid Nazir and Irfan Fazil.

The tri-nation tournament will begin from March 22 and also involves South Africa and India.

The Pakistan cricket team will leave Karachi for Sharjah on March 21.

The team: Moin Khan (captain), Inzamam-ul-Haq (vice-captain), Shahid Afridi, Mohammad Naveed, Wajhatullah Wasti, Younis Khan, Yousuf Youhanna, Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar, Waqar Younis, Mohammad Akram, Abdur Razzak, Imran Nazir, Arshad Khan, Shoaib Malik.
