Martyn for Test series against Kiwis

Lower order batsman Damien Martyn was on Wednesday night called into Australia's Test squad for this month's three-Test series against New Zealand, replacing injured Ricky Ponting.

Martyn is currently in New Zealand with Australia's one-day squad playing the Kiwis in a six-match limited overs series. Ponting failed a fitness test on his injured ankle in Sydney on Wednesday and was scratched from the New Zealand series and a three-match one-day series in South Africa.

Ponting hurt the ankle while fielding in the tri-series one-day finals against Pakistan in Sydney last month. He was injured sliding into a fence and said he may have to change his fielding technique where sliding is concerned.
