Blind chess team for Spain

A four-member Indian team of blind chess players and its coach S R Mohandas left for Barcelona on Tuesday to participate in the Individual World Chess Championship for the visually impaired. The event will be held at at Benasque, near Barcelona, from July 5 to 15.

The team comprises national champion Vilesh Bhat (27), Madan Bagayatkar (42), Charudatta Jadhav (32) and 25-year-old Shirish Patil (all from Maharashtra), a statement from the All India Chess Federation for the Blind said.

Coach S R Mohandas is the secretary of the Indian Council of Chess Studies.

The AICFB received an invitation from the International Braille Chess Association to send a team for the championship.
