Korea beats Thailand to lift Asia Cup

Korea, led by Asian Games gold medallist Yong-Il Yoon, beat Thailand on Sunday to lift the fourth Asia Cup team tennis championships.

After losing to the Thais in the last round-robin league tie on Saturday, Korea exacted revenge with a 3-0 win that gave them their maiden title in the $90,000 event.

Yoon gave Korea a 1-0 lead in less than an hour with a facile 6-2 6-2 victory over Attapol Rittiwattanapong.

Thailand's Danai Udomchoke's late surge raised hopes of the tie going into the decisive doubles, but he ran out of steam and lost 4-6 6-7 (7-9) to Hyung-Taik Lee in a tough 90- minute baseline duel.

The win gave Korea $25,000 while Thailand picked up the $12,500 runners-up purse.

India and China were the other teams in the men's competition.

China won the women's crown, beating Thailand in the final on Saturday. India, the third team, was eliminated in the league matches.

Hyung-Taik Lee beat Danai Udomchoke 6-4 7-6 (9-7)
