IA, UP, BSF, Punjab score

Riding on a goal-onslaught by forwards Sameer Dad and Dilip Tirkey, defending champions Indian Airlines crushed Jammu and Kashmir 8-0 to strenthen their claim for the title in the 60th National hockey championship in Jammu on Monday.

In the other Pool C Super League matches, Uttar Pradesh defeated Bengal 2-0, while Punjab outplayed Chandigarh by the same margin.

In a Pool D tie, BSF overcame a stiff challenge from Services to register a 3-1 win.

Indian Airlines dominated the proceeedings right from the the word go and never let J and K recover.

Dilip Tirkey was first score goal in sixth minute through a penality-corner. A field goal by sameer Dad followed in the seventh minute.

Sameer went on to score again in the 37th and 53rd minutes of the game while Tirkey scored again from a penalty-corner in the 38th minute.

Other goals came from Virender Singh, Rajesh Mishra and Brojan Singh.

J and K, who struggled all through, failed to convert any of the four penality-corners in their favour.

Anwar Khan and Amarjeet emerged as the top goal scorers for Uttar Pradesh, striking in the 46th and 54th minutes, against Bengal.

In another Pool C match, Punjab defeated Chandigarh 2-0.

For Punjab Jugraj Singh and Gurmeet Singh scored early goals in 14th and 19th minutes as Chandigarh failed to convert the six penalty-corners they earned.

BSF's 3-1 win over Services was scripted by a two-goal burst by Shinuhernez, who had given the securitymen the lead in the 14th minute.

After going into the break 1-0, Shinuhernez provided further cushion when he converted a penalty-corner in the 39th minute.

M Lakra struck another in the 52nd minute and it was Kamal Horo's 53rd minute strike that gave Services the consolation goal.
