CRPF drub Tatas 3-0

The Central Reserve Police Force(CRPF) booked their berth to Jammu for the Senior National hockey championship with an impressive 3-0 win over Tata Sports Club in a Group-D league match here today.

Earlier, Indian Oil drubbed Gujarat 8-2, after leading 5-2 at the breather, and look certain of qualifying to tournament proper as two teams from each group go to Jammu for the main tournament to be held next week.

CRPF, who have nine points from four encounters so far, led by a solitary goal scored by defender Mukesh Kumar in the 32nd minute off V Hemrum cross.

Skipper Tanveer Jamal then increased the margin in the 52nd minute following a penalty corner and centre forward Piriyo Kumar rounded off the tally in the last minute of the match following a penalty corner hit.

CRPF will play hosts Mumbai in their last league tie while India Oil play Tata Sport Club tomorrow. Maharashtra will play their last match against Gujarat in the first match (11.00 A M) on Sunday.

In the first match, Indian Oil's left out scored hat-trick with his goals coming in at 22nd, 26th and 30th minutes. Forward Hamza Mojtaba (2), centre forward Inderjeet Singh (2) and Lakhwinder Singh (1) were the other scorers for the winners.

Defenders Mahendra Nepali and Anand Sondkar scored for the losers.

Indian Oil have eight points from four games so far.
