The calendar for the first six events of the Wills Sport Golf Tour 2000-2001 season is highlighted by the addition of two new sponsors and increased prize-money.

The 2000-2001 season of the Wills Sport Indian Golf Tour will tee off with the Southern Swing from 23rd August, when the Cosmopolitan Club in Madras plays host to the Rs 7.5 lakh Hindu Open, sponsored by the The Hindu group of newspapers. The prize-money has been increased from last year's Rs 7 lakh.

The Tour moves to the adjoining Madras Gymkhana Club the next week for the first new event of the season and will welcome a new sponsor for the inaugural Ford-Madras Gymkhana Club Open, with a prize purse of Rs five lakh, to be played between August 30-September 3, 2000.

The KGA course will host the Wills Southern Open for yet another year, but Wills Sport, the title sponsors, have upped the prize-money to Rs 10 lakh from last season's Rs 6 lakh. The event will begin on September 5, 2000.

After a gap of one week, the Wills Sport Golf Tour will move up North and will feature the second new event and a new sponsor when the Xerox Modi Corp Open is held at the Classic Golf Resort, Gurgaon from September 19-23, 2000. The tournament is being sponsored by the office automation giants Xerox-Modi Corp and will have a prize purse of Rs 6 lakh.

The biggest event on the Wills Sport Golf Tour, the Honda-Siel-Nike PGA Championship will be the next stop. The event will have a total purse of Rs 28 lakh and will feature multinational sports apparel company, Nike, as a co-sponsor. This is Nike's first foray into professional golf in India.

The Tour then goes to Chandigarh for the Hero Golf Chandigarh Open at the Chandigarh Golf Club from Oct 4-7, 2000. The tournament, sponsored by Hero Cycles, will feature an increased prize money of Rs 10 lakh, up from Rs 9 lakh last season.
