Bhupathi-Knowles in last eight

Mahesh Bhupathi and Mark Knowles entered the quarter-finals of the $2.45 million Toronto Masters tennis tournament on Thursday.

In their second round match, Bhupathi and Knowles defeated wildcard entrants Nicolas Kiefer and Jocelyn Robichaud 7-6(3), 6-3.

In the first set there were three back and forth breaks of service with Bhupathi and Knowles serving twice for the first set at 5-4 and 6-5, before it went to a tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker, it was 2-3 before Bhupathi and Knowles won five points in a row to take the set.

In the second set, Bhupathi and Knowles had no problems before winning at 6-3.

In the quarter-finals, Bhupathi and Knowles will face the pair of Eagle/Florent, who defeated Wayne Ferreira and Yevgeny Kafelnikov 7-6(2), 6-7(2), 6-2.

In the other second round matches Ferreira/Leach defeated Kitinov/Olhovskiy 6-3, 7-6(5) and Bjorkman/Mirnyi defeated Koenig/MacPherson 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.

Earlier, in the first round, Bhupathi and Knowles beat fourth seeds Jiri Novak and David Rikl, 6-2, 6-3.
