Nisha Millet is fastest woman swimmer

India's supremacy in the swimming pool was complete as it won all seven gold medals at stake today, with Nisha Millet emerging the fastest woman of the SAF Games in Kathmandu. In the process, she finished with a record haul of seven gold medals.

The introduction of the women's event at the Games came as a big boost, as India picked 26 of the 30 gold medals in the five-day event.

On the final day today, the Indians sank four more records, with Kailashnath winning the gruelling men's 1500 m freestyle gold, clocking 17 min 06.57 secs. He broke the Games record in the heats, clocking 16 min 47.50 secs, and erased J Abhijit's mark of 16:53.85 seconds, set in the 1993 Games at Dhaka.

Nisha Millet crowned herself with glory. She emerged the fastest woman of the meet, winning the 50 metres freestyle gold with a new record time of 28.71 secs. She bettered Bula Choudhary's record of 29.29 seconds, set in 1991.

Richa Mishra won her second gold, winning the women's 200 metres individual medley. She clocked 2 min 34.39 secs and bettered the existing mark of 2:35.54 seconds, set by Dipika Chanmugham of Sri Lanka in 1991.

The other record came in the men's 4 x 100 freestyle relay when the Indian quartet of Hakimuddin, Martin Joseph, Elvis Ali Hhazarika and T Sujith bettered their own record of 3:42.26 seconds, clocking 3:40.73.

While the swimmers completed a clean sweep, the shooters, led by Jaspal Rana, won five golds. The boxers also finished on a happy note, bagging six golds.
