Windies start without Adams and Ambrose

The West Indies will start their ground-breaking short tour of Bangladesh without Jimmy Adams and Curtly Ambrose.

Coaching commitments with the West Indies cricket board mean the two players will arrive to complete the 15-strong squad on October 5 and will miss the three-day opening match beginning the previous day.

The bulk of the party arrives in Dhaka on Friday to play the three-day game and two one-day internationals on October 8 and 9.

As part of the West Indian policy to alternate their veteran fast bowlers for non-Test assignments, Ambrose replaces Courtney Walsh, who has just returned from a three-nation tournament in Toronto.

''This is the first time a Test-playing country is making an official tour to Bangladesh. Our country achieved one-day international status in 1997,'' Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Saber Hossain Chowdhury said.

Bangladesh have already named 16 players for the first encounter against the West Indies.

The teams:
Bangladesh: Aminul Islam (captain), Mehrab Hossain, Javed Omar Balem, Shariar Hossain, Nasirul Islam, Al-Shariar, Naimur Rahman, Khaled Mahmud, Khaled Mashud, Hasibul Hossain, Monjurul Islam, Shafiuddin Ahmed, Ahmed Kamal, Neeyamur Rashid, Enamul Hoque, Mosaddeque Hossain.

West Indies: Brian Lara (captain), Ridley Jacobs, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Sherwin Campbell, Jimmy Adams, Ricardo Powell, Mervyn Dillon, Reon King, Curtly Ambrose, Nixon McLean, Nehemiah Perry, Adrian Griffith, Wavell Hinds, Chris Gayle, Pedro Collins.
