Pak match-fixing report next week

The judge investigating allegations of match-fixing and betting against Pakistan cricket captain Wasim Akram and two other leading players today said he expected to submit his report next week.

Justice Malik Mohammad Qayyum of the Punjab High Court said he would complete his work after a final hearing tomorrow.

''In all probability, the report is going to be submitted to president Rafiq Tarar on September 15. But I will only be making recommendations in my report,'' he said.

Tarar, as the country's president, is the patron of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and will decide whether to make the findings public.

Qayyum said match-fixing should be combated with ''strong punitive actions'' but refused to reveal the contents of his report.

''It is confidential and I can't comment whether I will be naming the involvement of any players,'' he said. There will be no more hearings...I am not sure whether tomorrow's hearing will be significant or not since everything is now more or less clear. I have made up my mind what report I have to submit.''
