England in South Africa for Test series

England's cricket team arrived in Johannesburg today, eager to hold their heads up high during the five-match Test series against South Africa.

''We are here to win the Test series and play with pride and passion,'' captain Nasser Hussain said. ''If we can give the best account of ourselves we'll be very pleased.''

Hussain and his team were greeted by a small welcoming party including the president of the United Cricket Board of South Africa (UCBSA) Raymond White and managing director Ali Bacher.

''We're really looking forward to the next four months playing here in South Africa,'' Hussain said before being whisked away in the team bus. ''South Africa is a great sporting nation as they showed in the rugby World Cup.''

The team were driven to their luxury hotel in the north of Johannesburg. An official news conference was due to be held later.

England play their first match on Monday against an invitation team.

English newspapers have expressed surprise at the inclusion of maverick Phil Tufnell on a management committee of senior players announced by England on Tuesday for the South Africa tour.
