Gary Stead to replace McMillan

Batsman Gary Stead will join the New Zealand touring side in India after Craig McMillan fractured a finger while fielding, New Zealand Cricket said on Monday.

McMillan fractured the first joint of his right-hand index finger during the second Test against India at Kanpur.

"The injury occurred late on the first day of play and x-rays confirmed a break the following day," New Zealand Cricket said.

The team's physiotherapist Mark Harrison said a decision on McMillan's return to New Zealand would not be taken until Tuesday.

Stead, who had been on standby for the tour, will leave on Tuesday to be in India in time for the third Test at Ahmedabad.

He has played two Tests for New Zealand, both against South Africa last season when McMillan was also injured. In three innings against the South Africans he averaged 42.66.
