Basad Ali wins Pro-Am title

Basad Ali and his team emerged trumphant in the Pro-Am Shell Aravalli Open golf tournament in Faridabad today.

Sanjay Kumar and his team were runners-up, while S S P Chowrasia and team finished third.

The field constituted 13 professionals and 39 amateurs, with a number of leading professionals like Feroz Ali, Ali Sher, S S P Chowrasia, Mukesh Kumar, Rohtas Singh, Sanjay Kumar, Shiv Prakash, Basad Ali, Vishal Singh and Rafiq Ali taking part.

The Calcutta-based pro and his team, comprising Gaurav Kathuria, Harish Arora and Sanjay Sachdeva, carded a winning toal of 108 points, with Basad contributing 36 points to the tally.

Sanjay Kumar contributed 36 points to his team's tally of 106 with the amateurs Col Abhay Singh and A Dutta filling in the balance points.

S S P Chowrasia and his team of T R Jamas, Ashok Sharma and I S Bhatti tallied 103 points. Chowrasia, the 1999 Indian Open joint runner-up, scored 31 points.

Basad Ali, as the professional in the winning team, earned Rs 5,000, while the runner-up team professional Sanjay Kumar, earned Rs 3,000 for his effort. S S P Chowrasia as the pro in the second runner-up team, had to share the prize of Rs 2,000 with '98 Indian Open winner Feroz Ali. The two teams were tied at an identical score.

The best score of the day carried a prize of Rs 3,000 and was won by Yusuf Ali, who, at four-under 68, tallied a fine 40 points. The amateurs in the top three teams, received glittering trophies.
