Gopichand, Kanetkar in second round of Danish Open

India's Pullela Gopichand and Nikhil Kanetkar moved into the second round of the Danish Open Badminton tournament.

Gopichand beat Joachim Fischer (Denmark) 15-7, 15-12, while Kanetkar beat Kim Neilsen, also of Denmark, 15-8, 15-5.

Two other Indians in the fray, however, lost their opening round encounters.

Sachin Ratti lost to fifth-seeded Dane Poul-Erik Hoyer-Larsen 4-15, 6-15, while Abhin Shyam Gupta went down fighting to Indonesian Heryanto Arbi 15-11, 15-17, 9-15.

Gupta, the young Indian, did well to take the first game and was on course to what would have been a major upset as he had his experienced opponent on the ropes in the second. However, he committed a series of unforced errors in the crucial stages before going down.
