Windies in Bangladesh

The West Indies cricket team, led by Brian Lara, arrived in Dhaka today to play three matches against Bangladesh amid tension prior to a country-wide general strike on Sunday.

''Tight security will be maintained at the ground and hotel,'' local security chief Nurul Alam said.

The West Indies are the first Test-playing side to make an official tour of Bangladesh, which achieved one-day international status in 1997.

The teams start a three-day match on Monday and then play two one-day internationals on October 8 and 9.

Jimmy Adams and paceman Curtly Ambrose, who have coaching commitments, arrive next Tuesday and will miss the opening game.

The team
Brian Lara (captain), Ridley Jacobs, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Sherwin Campbell, Jimmy Adams, Ricardo Powell, Mervyn Dillon, Reon King, Curtly Ambrose, Nixon McLean, Nehemiah Perry, Adrian Griffith, Wavell Hinds, Chris Gayle, Pedro Collins.
