Vankat replaces Jayprakash for first Test

Srinivas Venkataraghavan of Tamil Nadu will be the home umpire, instead of A V Jayaprakash of Bangalore, along with Peter Samuel of Sri Lanka (neutral umpire) for the first Test between India and New Zealand to be played at Mohali from October 10 to 14, the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced today. S K Bansal of Delhi will be the third umpire.

BCCI executive secretary Sharad Diwadkar informed that since Venkataraghavan is available only during the period of the first Test, the BCCI decided to appoint him for the match. Jayprakash will umpire either the second or third Test, he added.

Darell Hair of Australia and Rudi Koertzen of South Africa have already been named the neutral umpires for the second and third Tests at Kanpur and Ahmedabad respectively.

Sri Lanka's Ranjan Madugalle will be the International Cricket Council's (ICC) match refree for the entire series. The home umpires for the second and thrid Tests will be announced later.
