Nuwan Zoysa performs a 'trick'

Captain Andy Flower led a determined recovery after Zimbabwe had been rocked by a second over hat-trick on the opening day of the second Test against Sri Lanka today.

After left-arm paceman Nuwan Zoysa took wickets with each of his first three balls and before Zimbabwe had a run on the board, the home side recovered to be 112 for four by tea.

Flower was then unbeaten on 49 with Alistair Campbell on 30 not out in an unbroken fifth-wicket partnership of 59.

The Zimbabwean skipper and his brother, Grant, had earlier added 53 for the fourth wicket after Zoysa's remarkable hat-trick, the first to be achieved by a Sri Lankan in a Test match.

Zoysa, bowling the second over of the match, removed Trevor Gripper, Murray Goodwin and Neil Johnson after Zimbabwe had been put in to bat.

The Flower brothers batted responsibly to take Zimbabwe to lunch on 46 for three but in the fifth over of the second session grant Glower was yorked for 19 by off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan.

However, it was the only wicket of the session as Andy Flower and Campbell consolidated impressively.
