Loxton's heart and headgear in the right place

Former Australian Test cricketer Sam Loxton will auction his cap from the unbeaten 1948 Invincibles tour of England to aid cancer research.

Loxton, 78, hopes the famous baggy green cap will fetch $40,000 Australian, which he will put towards breast cancer research. His wife Jo has survived the disease.

"There's a great need for further investigation along the lines of medical research so I thought this was a good opportunity to see if we could make something possible for Westmead Hospital in Sydney,'' Loxton said today.

"She's putting something back. She's a counselor, goes out and visits ladies and sees them in hospital,'' Loxton said of his wife.

Loxton said he would however keep his first Test cap, from the 1947-48 tour of India.
