'No comment', says Asif

Sonny Abraham in Dubai

Former Pakistan cricket captain Asif Iqbal refused to comment on the match-fixing allegations made against him and Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar by former Pakistani pace bowler Sarfaraz Nawaz.

"I think that any comment from me will dignify his remarks and I don't believe they deserve to be dignified. I have nothing else to say on the subject," Asif told the media.

Asked if he had any opinion on the bribery scandal, in general, Iqbal said, "I have said what I had to say".

Asif was in Sharjah briefly yesterday on his way to Dhaka for the Asian Test Championship final.

He said he had not criticised the points system for the tournament but only pointed out that there would be teething problems.

"We saw that happening already. And to give a clear example, how I see it, there should be no points given in the final because there will be then a tendency to go for a draw rather than play for a win once you attain a first innings points lead. That won't be in the spirit of cricket", he said.
