Paes/Bhupathi in third round

Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi, the world No. 1 doubles pair, stromed into the third round of the men's doubles at Wimbledon, with a 7-5, 7-6(7-3), 6-3 victory over Bobby Kokavec of Canada and Gabriel Trifu of Romania in a second round match today.

The French Open champions, seeded No 1, took time to settle down and dropped serve early. But once they found their rhythm, they showed the form that took them to the No. 1 position.

Paes and Bhupathi had won their opening match against the unseeded pair of Tom Kempers and Michael Kohlmann in similar fashion, by getting the crucial breaks.

Third seeds Jonas Bjorkman of Sweded and Patrick Rafter of Australia also had things their way before beating Pablo Albano of Argentina and Tomas Carbonell of Spain 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 to make the third round.

In another match, Americans Richey Reneberg and Johnathan Stark survived a fightback from Australians 12th seeds Wayne Arthurs and Andrew Kratzman, before winning 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 4-6, 7-5 to also make the third round.
