Bhupathi/Paes win easily

Top seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes continued their winning streak with a straight sets victory over qualifiers Maurice Ruah and Andre Sa at the Stella Artois Championships. The Indians won their first match of the grass season 6-2, 6-4.

Their next task will be a more difficult one. In the third round, they play the Australians pair of Wayne Arthurs and Andrew Kratzmann. Arthurs/Kratzmann defeated MacPhie/Tarango 6-2, 6-2 in the second round.

Byron Black and Wayne Ferreira scored a 7-6(3), 6-0 victory over fourth-seeds Martin Damm and Cyril Suk to set up a meeting with Sebastien Lareau and Alex O'Brien, who defeated T J Middleton and Michael Tebbutt 6-2 and 7-6(1).

Still in contention is the hard-serving team of Goran Ivanisevic and Mark Philippoussis. They won a close match against Jim Courier and Mark Knowles 7-6(5), 6-4.

The second-seeded team of Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde will play their first match today, when they face youngsters Jan-Michael Gambill and Lleyton Hewitt. In other matches schduled for the day, Wayne Black/Sandon Stolle will face Scott Humphries/Jack Waite, and Yevgeny Kafelnikov/Max Mirnyi will face B Ellwood and M Hill.
