Tendulkar says yes

Board of Control for Cricket in India president Rajsingh Dungarpur announced today that SachinTendulkar has accepted the India captaincy.

The announcement puts to an end all speculation regarding the master batsman's unwillingness to take on the mantle from 36-year-old Mohammad Azharuddin.

"Sachin spoke to me around 1 pm and said he was accepting the India captaincy. That puts an end to all speculation, I suppose," Dungarpur said.

The BCCI chief denied reports that he had met Tendulkar prior to the selection committee meeting, in Nagpur yesterday, which was held to name the captain for the forthcoming the triangular series in Sri Lanka and other commitments.

"No, I did not meet him," he declared, adding, "but, yes, I had been speaking to him (before the meeting)."
