Biswas to lead pre-Olympic soccer team

Striker Dipendu Biswas will lead the 20-member Indian football team for the pre-Olympic soccer 'away' match against Thailand at Bangkok, on July 17, P R Dasmunshi, president of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), announced in Calcutta today.

Dasmunshi said the team was selected after a coaching camp at the NIS Eastern centre at Salt Lake.

India will play the 'home' match at Salt Lake stadium on July 24.

Following is the team:
Goalkeepers: Prasanta Dora, Kalyan Choubey, Dinesh
Defenders: Falguni Dutta, Lolendra Singh, Dipak Mondal (vice-captain), Maheshgawli, Anit Ghosh and Suresh
Midfielders: Hardip Singh Sanga, Renedy Singh, A S Firoz, Noel Wilson, Rocky Barreto and Bijen Singh
Forwards: Alvito D'Cunha, Dipendu Biswas (captain), Surjit Singh, Sheikh Sanjib and J Singh

Shankar Moitra and Sampath Kumar will accompany the team as treasurer and coach respectively, while P K Banerjee will be the technical director. Former AIFF secretary P P Lakshmanan will be the chef-de-mission.

The team will leave Calcutta for Bangkok on July 15.
