Pakistan announces 16-member squad for Indian tour

Former captain Aamir Sohail was left out of Pakistan's 16-member side announced today to make a two-Test tour of India starting next week.

The Pakistan Cricket Board included most of the expected names, including Saeed Anwar, Ijaz Ahmed, Salim Malik, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Yousuf Youhana, Shahid Afridi, and Waqar Younis in addition to captain Wasim Akram and vice-captain Moin Khan.

The announcement came shortly after the PCB's special envoy, Brig Saeed Ahmed Rafi, sent to make a security inspection of the venues selected in India for the series, gave his go-ahead despite threats from the Hindu extremist Shiv Sena to disrupt the matches.

Sohail's exclusion came after the side was beaten 1-0 in the home series against Australia and Zimbabwe.

The team: Wasim Akram (captain), Moin Khan (wicket-keeper and vice-captain), Saeed Anwar, Wajahatullah Wasti, Mohammad Naveed, Ijaz Ahmed, Salim Malik, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Yousuf Youhana, Shahid Afridi, Waqar Younis, Mushtaq Ahmed, Nadeem Khan, Rashid Lateef (wicket-keeper), Mohammed Akram, Shahid Nazir.
