According to Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) secretary K Jyothikumaran, India's participation in the two competitions will give the players an opportunity to get acclimatised to Australian conditions in the run-up to the Olympics.

Terry Walsh, former Australian captain and now coach, had extended the invitation to the IHF during the recently-concluded Asia Cup in Kuala Lumpur, asking it to send the teams to play in the two competitions, Jyothikumaran said.

The selection trials will be held on December 23 and 24.

Jyothikumaran said that the team will also play one Test against Canada on January 11 and two against Belgium on January 12 and 14.
