Silveira's brace gives Churchill victory

Goa champions Churchill Brothers had just two clear chances, and they capitalised on them to get the better of Mahindra and Mahindra 2-0 in the fourth National Football League in Bombay yesterday.

In other matches, Border Security Force beat another Goan outfit in Dempo Sports Club 1-0 in Ludhiana, while reigning champions Salgaocar got the better of State Bank of Travancore 1-0 in Thiruvananthapuram.

For Churchill and Salgaocar it was their second victory from as many matches, while BSF, who lost to Mohun Bagan in their opening match, posted their first win.

Francis 'Pocket' Silveira was the hero of Churchill's victory. The dimunitive striker, who scored four goal against Dempo on Sunday, got both the goals against Mahindra, who play Mohun Bagan on Sunday at Calcutta.

If Silveira was Churchill's man of the hour, then it was Brazilian Joao dos Santos Pereira who did the start turn for Salgaocar. Eight minutes from the end, the got himself in the right position to accept a pass and find the net.

Gurjit Atwal struck just two minutes before the long whistle to enable BSF pick full points from their match against Dempo.
