Pakistan include Akhtar, Afridi

Shoaib Akhtar has been named in the Pakistani cricket squad for the triangular series in Australia despite allegations of an illegal bowling action.

The 24-year-old paceman's bowling action was queried by Australian umpires during Pakistan's Australian tour last month.

"We have no official intimation about Akhtar. He is the fastest and greatest bowler and that is why we have selected him," said chief selector Salahuddin Ahmed.

Also included are allrounder Shahid Afridi and teenage off-spinner Shoaib Malik. The selectors dropped leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed, pacemen Waqar Younis and Mohammad Akram and opening batsman Ghulam Ali.

The Pakistan team leaves for Australia on December 29.

The team:
Wasim Akram

Ijaz Ahmed
Inzamam-ul Haq
Mohammad Wasim
Saeed Anwar
