Azharuddin likely to miss Toronto series

Mohammad Azharuddin is likely to miss the Toronto series against the West Indies. The former India captain says he will need at least two more weeks to regain full fitness.

This was disclosed by Board of Control for Cricket in India president Raj Singh Dungarpur today. "I spoke to him this morning and he told me that though he has started practicing, his shoulder has still not healed fully. He is still having trouble throwing the ball,'' Dungarpur said.

Immediately after the World Cup, Azharuddin underwent surgery on his shoulder for a rotatory cuff tear.

The squad for the Toronto tour will be selected in Bombay tomorrow. India is slated to play three one-dayers against the West Indies from September 11 to 14.

Ajit Agarkar has also not regained prime fitness and it will take another fortnight for his hamstring injury to heal. Agarkar had sustained the injury during the Indian team's conditioning camp in Madras before the tour of Sri Lanka.

Dungarpur said that he has not heard from wicketkeeper Nayan Mongia. ''I believe he has started practicing but I do not know about the level of fitness since I have not heard from him yet."

He indicated that the Indian 'A' team which is scheduled to play a one-day series against the Australian 'A' team in the U.S in September is also likely to be selected tomorrow itself.
