Usha bags second gold

Kerala's M Usha bagged her second gold medal in the 13th Asia-Pacific Swimming and Diving Championships when she won the 200 metres girls' butterflystroke today.

It was India's third gold of the championships, and swelled the overall medal tally to 42. Chinese Taipei, with 105 medals, including 32 gold, continued its domination.

Usha, who won her first gold yesterday, winning the 100 metres butterfly, clocked 2:38:43 seconds and finished ahead of teammate Rajshree Chakrabarty, who claimed the silver clocking 2:44:24 seconds. Stuti Singh of Nepal finished third in 3:27:43 seconds.

Usha also won a silver in the 400 metres individual medley, clocking 6:16:41. Lin Chi-Chan (Chinese Taipei) was first in 5:24:59 seconds.

Rajshree won another silver in the 50 metres freestyle where Rakhi Mehra claimed bronze. Rajshree (30.15 seconds) and Rakhi (31.19) finished behind the winner Mok Wing Yan (27:56).

Two new meet records were set today. In girls' 50 metres freestyle, China's Qu Jing timed 26:99 seconds to win gold and erase compatriot Zhen Xi's mark of 27:26 seconds, set in 1996.

In the boys' 400 metres individual medley, Hong Kong's Fong Lik Sun won the gold with a new mark of 4:37:57 seconds, rewriting the eight-year-old record of 4:43:39 seconds, set by compatriot Lee Shih Hong in 1991.
