Rivaldo and Ronaldo return for Brazil friendlies

Brazil coach Wanderley Luxemburgo kept faith with the players who won last month's Copa America when he named a squad for September's friendlies against Argentina.

Fifteen of the 22 players who formed the squad in Paraguay were recalled yesterday including star attractions Rivaldo and Ronaldo, who were rested from the Confederations' Cup in Mexico.

Brazil, who beat Argentina 2-1 in the quarter-finals on the way to winning the Copa America, will face their arch-rivals twice, first in Buenos Aires on September 4 and then in Porto Alegre, southern Brazil, three days later.

Atletico Mineiro defender Mancini was the only uncapped player included.

Ronaldo and Rivaldo were the topscorers in the Copa America with five goals each.

Luxemburgo, hailed after Brazil's Copa America win, quickly had the media on his back after the 4-3 defeat by Mexico in the Confederations' Cup final.

The team:
Goalkeepers: Dida (Corinthians), Marcos (Palmeiras)
Defenders: Cafu and Antonio Carlos (AS Roma), Mancini (Atletico Mineiro), Scheidt (Gremio), Luis Alberto (Flamengo), Joao Carlos (Corinthians), Roberto Carlos (Real Madrid), Silvinho (Arsenal). Midfielders: Emerson Ferreira and Ze Roberto (Bayer Leverkusen), Vampeta (Corinthians), Marcos Assuncao (AS Roma), Juninho (Vasdo DaGama), Alex (Palmeiras), Rivaldo (Barcelona), Flavio Conceicao (Deportivo Coruna). Forwards: Rronaldo (Inter Milan), Ronaldo Assis (Gremio), Roni (Fluminense), Elber (Bayern Munich).
