Bangladesh prepare for Test status

West Indies to tour Bangladesh in October The West Indies will tour Bangladesh in October to play a three-day match and two one-day internationals, a top Bangladesh cricket board official said today.

The West Indians will arrive in Dhaka on October 1 for a 10-day tour before they travel to Sharjah to participate in a tri-nation tournament.

''The three-day match will take place on October 4-6 and the two day-and-night one-dayers on October 8 and 9 at Dhaka's Bangabandhu National Stadium,'' BCB president Saber Hossain Chowdhury said.

Bangladesh players will start their training camp on August 19.

Bangladesh's newly appointed coach South African Eddie Barlow will take up his post on September 1.

Chowdhury said Bangladesh will play one-day internationals, three-day and four-day matches with the national and ''A'' sides from different Test countries at home and abroad, starting from October this year.

The matches will help Bangladesh's bid to achieve Test status as laid down by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The West Indies' tour will be followed by England ''A'' in November, while Sri Lanka and Australia ''A'' teams are expected early next year.

Bangladesh will tour India and Pakistan at the end of this year and early next year.
