Ben Johnson doubts Greene's record

Disgraced Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson, who has renewed his fight against a life-ban for doping, said he was unsure whether the new 100 metres world record holder Maurice Greene was clean.

''He is not bad, but as far as I know he didn't have to undergo a drug test in training in the last four years,'' Johnson told German Premiere television yesterday in the run-up to the Golden League meet in Monaco.

The World champion Greene set the World record at 9.79 seconds June 16 in Athens.

Johnson had run the same time at the Seoul Olympics 1988, but was stripped of his gold medal and banned for four years after testing positive for anabolic steroids. He was caught again in 1993 and banned for life by the world governing body IAAF.

Johnson was in Monte Carlo on Tuesday for an appeal against the ban. The IAAF council is to decide on his fate on August 17.
