Aravinda off the hook on discipline charge

Deposed Sri Lankan vice captain Aravinda D'Silva was let off the hook on disciplinary charges, after reaching a settlement following his imbroglio with a press photographer earlier this week.

Chandra Schaffter, manager of the Lankan team and the man who had, earlier this week, instituted disciplinary guidelines for the team, said no further action would be contemplated following the settlement.

The Sports Media Association, which had filed the official complaint on behalf of the photographer who was allegedly target for abuse and obscene gestures by the Lankan star batsman, has asked Schaffter to take "meaningful steps" that will "pave the way for the proper conduct of the country's cricketers who are looked up to as model citizens and ambassadors of the nation".

Schaffter said that tight disciplinary measures had been instituted, which include fines and other action for players turning up late for practise, a complete ban on friends of players landing up in the players' dressing rooms, a ban on mobile phones being carried by players during practise sessions, and such.
