Gold Flake Open to be held in January

International Management Group (IMG), promoters of India's showpiece tennis event - the Gold Flake Open - today announced significant management changes in their organising team for the ATP tour event to be held from January 3 to 9, next year.

For the past three years, the ITC-sponsored event was held during April. The next tournament has been rescheduled for January, and will be held a week before the Australian Open.

With the Gold Flake Open emerging as one of Asia's most successful tennis tournaments, the IMG felt the need to enhance their team to keep pace with the stature of the tournament and appointed former ATP Tour player and Indian Davis Cup representative Gaurav Natekar as tournament coordinator.

"Natekar's skill and expertise will bring enormous value to the tournament as it continues into the new millennium," an IMG statement said.

IMG also announced the appointment of Sheila Maniam as tournament director and Pawan Kachibhatla as tournament manager.

The Gold Flake Open won the ATP Tour award for excellence as also the award for the best promoted tournament in the international group on the Tour over the past two years.
