Kumar shocks indisposed Ferreira

Young Alok Kumar scored an upset of sorts when he got the better of an incapacitated former World amateur champion Michael Ferreira in the second round of the World Professional Billiards Championships in Chennai today.

The Chandigarh-based cueist was able to call the shots from the start, as Ferreira's mobility was restricted on account of a slipped disc he suffered earlier on, and comfortably won 1000-572.

However, Kumar, a former national champion, looked unimpressive right through and was helped largely by Ferreira's discomfiture. It was only late in the match that he displayed some good potting.

Kumar could have registered the first century break of the tournament, but he failed to pocket the red on 91, in his 62nd visit. Before that his best breaks were only 55, 50, 51, 76 and an unfinished 57, with which he reached the 1,000-point match to wrap up the match.
