Aussies down with tummy trouble

Damien Fleming was the star of Australia's opening Commonwealth Games cricket win on Wednesday, but his teammates didn't want to know him today.

After claiming four wickets in Australia's easy victory over Canada, Fleming and squad member Damien Martyn were struck down by stomach illness.

The pair were isolated from the rest of the team and missed today's training session.

Australian cricket physiotherapist Errol Alcott said he believed the pair's identical stomach complaints were mild. Alcott was confident both would recover in time to train tomorrow, ahead of Saturday's match against Antigua.

"We don't know what brought it on,'' Alcott said. "It could be the food, or it could be they have just been unlucky to catch something.''

Australia leads group B after yesterday's opening game as the other nations in the group, Antigua and India, were unable to complete their match because of rain.

Under a system developed for cricket's debut at the Games, Australia recorded two points for its win while Antigua and India each were awarded one point.

Only one of the four nations in group B will proceed to the semifinals.
