Gaekwad benefit in Sharjah

Sonny Abraham in Dubai

Anshuman Gaekwad, the coach of the Indian cricket team, will be one of the three beneficiaries of the three- nation Sharjah Cup tournament to be held from November six to 13.

Sources in the Sharjah-based Cricketers Benefit Fund Series said the other two beneficiaries from India would be former Test players Roger Binny and Naren Tamhane.

India, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe are the participating nations in the eight day tournament.

The CBFS has given away benefit purses to more than a hundred cricketers from various countries in the last 15 years. Each beneficiary gets around 35,000 dollars.

Meanwhile, the CBFS has already started preparations for the three-nation Champions Trophy at Sharjah, scheduled from April seven to April 16, 1999.

Traditional rivals India and Pakistan will be joined by England in the event, the sources added.
