Howzaaat, ma'am?!

Sri Lanka will shortly introduce women umpires at all levels of the game.

" We will begin by training nearly 30 ladies," said K T Francis, himself a member of the international panel of umpires. At the time of writing, there are 450 male umpires in Sri Lanka.

"The demand for women umpires was raised by women's groups. We agreed, and hence the new project,'' Francis explained.

Women umpires will start with supervising domestic matches for ladies' teams. The first batch will start training this weekend.
