Sobers has them in a spin

One of the legends of cricket, former West Indies captain Sir Garfield Sobers, is here again -- not at the helm of a West Indies outfit, but as a coach.

The game's greatest all-rounder will impart the guiles of spin bowling to the boys in training at the MAC Spin Foundation, attached to the M A Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Madras.

However, much to the disappointment of his hosts who have invited him as part of the foundation's scheme of inviting great spinners of all time to inspire the wards, the weather, which turned inclement since yesterday, threatens to disrupt Sobers' short stint with the boys .

Sobers, known the 'Chinaman', was to begin his interaction with the wards this evening.

Sobers had last come to India as captain of the West Indies team that toured in the 1966-'67 season. In the Test held in the city, he was instrumental in managing an honourable draw for his side. Earlier, he visited the country as member of Gerry Alexander's team in the mid-'50s.
