Anand goes up in World ranking

Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand is now world number two, according to the provisional FIDE rating list.

According to a fax message by Anand's sponsors "TNQ sponsorship India Pvt Ltd", Anand's ELO rating has improved by 19.7 points following his string of victories recently at Belgrade, Groningen, Wijk Aan Zee and Linares.

Anand's current ELO rating is 2790. World no. 1 Garry Kasparov's rating has dipped by 9.4 points, narrowing the gap between the two great grandmasters to just 25. Kramnik has slipped to 2778 points.

The FIDE ratings are published every six months. The provisional ratings are calculated every month.
