Chauhan cleared

send this story to a friend

The International Cricket Council cleared off-spinner Rajesh Chauhan from the accusation of chucking.

Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Jaywant Lele said ICC secretary David Richards had said that Chauhan's action has passed the final scrutiny. He can now be considered for the Indian team for the first Test against Australia, to be selected tomorrow.

Chauhan's action along with Sri Lanka's off spinner Kumara Dharamsena came under the cloud when match referee for the India-Sri Lanka series Bob Simpson conveyed his suspicions to the ICC. The latter then told both Sri Lanka and India to send the bowlers for corrective training before selecting them.

The Sri Lanka board ignored the suggestion but the BCCI, after a long delay, sent Chauhan, along with former spin ace Erapalli Prasanna to the clinic of former England off-spinner Fred Titmus in London. Titmus recommended a slight change in the way Chauhan released the ball and in his delivery stride.

The BCCI then sent a fresh video of his corrected action which was passed yesterday by the ICC committee for illegal deliveries.
