Always second best

Anant Gaundalkar

India has managed to win just two gold medals -- one each in the men's and women's category -- in hockey in the Asian Games.

The men's event began in 1958 and the women's event in 1982 in New Delhi. India has the distinction of having participated in both these tournaments.

Apart from the two gold-winning performances, India has bagged eight silver medals (all by the men) and two bronze medals (one each by the men and women) over the years.
